It was a lot of fun and we planned it just right. For many years my dad and I have always gone to the car show in Utah every January. It is something we always look forward to. The past two years we have not been able to go due to several factors and items that got in the way. We planned it so my dad and I could go the New York International Car Show over the weekend. It was a lot of fun and I am glad we got to go. We got to see a lot of pretty awesome cars.

It is always fun to take pictures of cars I can’t afford! The car show in Utah has been on a gradual decline over the years. They never have any exciting cars there anymore. The NY show was filled with about every new car and concept car imaginable. It was great.

We did some exploring and finished off the afternoon with a few doughnuts from Doughnut Plant, ranked as some of the best doughnuts in the country. All I can say is that I agree with the ranking.

Mormons invade Shake Shack!

It was actually a big surprise to see the entire Shake Shack filled with men both young and old following the Priesthood Session of conference on Saturday night. I would anticipate this at many restaurants and ice cream places in Utah but to see this in Westport, Connecticut I was actually shocked.

BYU vs Baylor - Let’s go Cougs! The parade was filled with lots of marching bands and tons of bag pipers. It was fun to see. It started snowing and it got kind of cold so we didn’t stay and watch too long. On my way home I stopped at Magnolia Bakery to get some Banana Pudding. The past few times I have tried buying some they have been sold out.
We had a late lunch at the Burger Joint. This unkept secret is located behind the ceiling to floor red curtain in the back corner of the Le Parker Meridien Hotel in NYC. You notice a quick change in scenery when you step inside the literal hole in the wall. The change from 4-star hotel to super old and grungy burger joint is pretty fun. You know the food has got to be great when the menu is hand written with Sharpie markers on a piece of cardboard. (“Cash only”, has also proven to be a pretty good indicator as well that the place has pretty good food.) They try to keep the line moving quickly so you have to be ready to order when it is your turn. If you are not ready they will quickly send you to the back of the line.

The burger is simple and very delicious. I have always been a fan of In-n-Out Burger and the burger here somewhat reminded me of In-n-Out. They don’t have any special sauces or anything out of the ordinary about their burgers. You simply pick between a regular burger or a cheeseburger and then you select your toppings and condiments. I chose lettuce, tomato, pickle, ketchup and mayo. I opted out the mustard and onions. This place is a pretty big tourist type place but I would definitely wait in line again to get another burger. Their fries were also surprisingly delicious.

We then ventured down to the south side of the city and grabbed some dessert at Doughnut Plant. The modern styled interior was cool and the doughnuts even cooler! They had so many different flavors. I wanted to try all of them! Based on the recommendation from the girl at the register I tried the Oatmeal doughnut. It was awesome. I also got a Tres Leches doughnut that was also very delicious. Honestly, they were the best doughnuts I have ever had. I have never been a doughnut fan, but if all doughnuts were like this then I would be. There is a Dunkin Donuts on nearly every corner out here in the east and honestly, their doughnuts taste like cardboard. Any place that sells square shaped doughnuts has got to be worth at least a try, right? I give this place 5 stars!

Anyways, I try to maintain a fairly healthy diet but I have learned that when I go down to the city I can’t count calories. I just figure that I am walking enough while I am there that I am hopefully burning some of the calories off.

New York’s best unkept secret - Burger Joint.
I helped with the elaborate plan of my future brother-in-law to propose to my sister. He flew from SLC and surprised my sister on the ice rink at Rockefeller Center. It was awesome to see how surprised my sister was. She had no idea that he would be coming out to New York to propose. The entire rink of people stopped and was cheering and clapping for them!

It was a really fun weekend and I am really glad they were able to come and visit me.

Spent the day helping a friend dig out after Nemo!! Just a couple of weeks after moving here I survived Hurricane Sandy and just today Blizzard Nemo finished off. Yesterday I was in charge of feeding the Sister missionaries that are in my ward. Just as I suspected, they were grounded for the day due to the storm. I prepared the food and left as soon as I finished my work for the day.

The snow that was on the ground was not that bad. Growing up in Utah we learn how to get around in the snow pretty well. I can remember many many trips I made back and forth between Provo and home with pretty bad snowy roads.

I drove to Stamford and delivered dinner to the Sisters and then I drove home. The roads were really not bad, but I was literally the only person on the highway. It was actually kind of weird. After getting home I learned that the governor closed all the highways in the state. I never got that memo! I guess that explains why I was the only one out there.

I did have some issues getting my car back into my parking lot. The driveway is very steep and even though the plow had just come it was just too steep and too slick. I drove around for about 30 minutes and then made a few more attempts at getting my car parked. I finally had to park down the road and then shovel the entrance. Luckily I was able to squeak into the first parking stall at the bottom of the hill.

This morning I cleaned my car off and then dug it out. After a few minutes my neighbors all started coming out. I was finally able to meet some of them. We all helped dig each other out. It was actually kind of fun. I have not had to shovel walks or do anything like that for a bit.

Norwalk didn’t receive as much snow as New Haven did. I couldn’t believe the amount of snow they received up there. The pictures I saw showed cars that were completely buried!

My sister recently came to visit me in CT.
